Ok, forget the "don't update too often" dictum, it seems better to update whenever I feel like it. That way things which are in my head get typed instead of wasting away until I have the energy to post.
Anyway...according to Wikipedia, the most visited building in the world since December 1986 is...the Baha'i temple in Delhi. That seriously surprised me, although it's another reminder not to underestimate the power of religion. After all, the largest gathering of people for any single purpose is the (Maha) Kumbh Mela, another religiously motivated event in Allahabad, this time Hindu. Estimates for the number of people there range up to 70 million. That speaks for itself.
So naturally I did more Wikipedia surfing on the Baha'i faith, which I knew little about. Very interesting that the governing authority of the religion seems to be essentially democratically elected, probably at least partly a legacy of the faith being less than 200 years old. Check it out:

Ok...I've never blogged before, for a variety of reasons, and I just started this one as an outlet for a lot of random stuff that I see or maybe think and never get a chance to enshrine in (relative) immutability :P. Since this is my first post, I wanted to write down a few guidelines that I hope I follow the rest of the way. These are more for me than anything else (who else would be reading this anyway?), but I'll write them as if to an imaginary reader. So here goes:
- If it isn't already clear, I like wordplay a lot, I notice it everywhere, and I come up with particularly pathetic examples frequently. So that will get a decent chunk of space, I think.
- I am still a math/physics/cs/etc type person, so expect a little bit to creep in now and then. But normally I've had enough of it without spewing out more here.
- When I update, I'll try to make it a new nugget of randomness every time...but I might not update too often (and probably won't). Hope I follow that one...
- The whole thing will be in more or less standard English, no IM abbrevs or anything. I have nothing against them at all and I use them often, but I don't want to here.
- This isn't going to be any window into my personal life, and I'll basically give whatever backstory is needed for a total stranger to understand any entry...or better yet, no backstory will be needed.
Right, mission statement over with, now to see if this thing lasts more than 5 posts.
